The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has announced the cancellation of the 2024 Abu Dhabi Masters badminton tournament, originally scheduled for October 1st to 6th. The reasons for the cancellation have not been disclosed.

The Abu Dhabi Masters, a BWF Tour Super 100 level tournament, offered a total prize pool of US$120,000. It was expected to attract top badminton players from around the world.

The inaugural edition of the Abu Dhabi Masters was held in 2023 at the ADNEC Marina Hall in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The winners of the five events in the 2023 edition were:

  • Men’s Singles: Mads Christophersen (Denmark)
  • Women’s Singles: Unnati Hooda (India)
  • Men’s Doubles: Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin (Malaysia)
  • Women’s Doubles: Tanisha Crasto/Ashwini Ponnappa (India)
  • Mixed Doubles: Mads Vestergaard/Christine Busch (Denmark)

The cancellation of the 2024 tournament is a disappointment for both players and fans who were looking forward to another exciting edition of the Abu Dhabi Masters. However, the BWF has not ruled out the possibility of the tournament returning in future years.
