Qingdao, China – Indonesia made history by winning the 2025 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships for the first time after defeating host nation China in the final with a 3-1 scoreline. This marks Indonesia’s maiden title in the competition, breaking China’s dominance as the two-time defending champions.

The final, held at Conson Gymnasium on February 16, 2025, showcased an intense battle between two badminton powerhouses. Here’s how the matches unfolded:

Match 1: Mixed Doubles – Indonesia Takes the Lead

The final started with an electrifying mixed doubles match, where Rinov Rivaldy / Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti from Indonesia faced China’s Gao Jiaxuan / Wu Mengying. The Indonesian pair delivered a dominant performance, winning in straight games 21-11, 21-13, giving Indonesia a 1-0 lead.

Match 2: Men’s Singles – Indonesia Doubles Their Advantage

In the men’s singles, Alwi Farhan, Indonesia’s rising star and former world junior champion, took on China’s Hu Zhe’an, another junior world champion. Alwi demonstrated superior control and composure, securing a convincing 21-15, 21-13 victory. With this win, Indonesia extended their lead to 2-0, moving within one match of the title.

Match 3: Women’s Singles – China Fights Back

China managed to stay in the contest through the women’s singles match, where Xu Wenjing faced Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani. Xu proved too strong, securing a straight-game win 21-12, 21-13. This victory brought China back into the tie at 2-1, keeping their hopes alive.

Match 4: Men’s Doubles – Indonesia Secures the Championship

The crucial men’s doubles match saw Muhammad Shohibul Fikri / Daniel Marthin of Indonesia go up against Chen Xujun / Huang Di from China. The Indonesian duo displayed remarkable coordination and attacking prowess, clinching the match 21-15, 21-9, sealing Indonesia’s historic triumph 3-1.

The women’s doubles match, which would have featured Lanny Tria Mayasari / Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti for Indonesia, was no longer needed as the championship was already decided.

A Milestone Victory, but Bigger Challenges Ahead

This victory is a monumental achievement for Indonesia, marking their first title in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships. However, the team must now shift their focus to an even bigger challenge—the 2025 Sudirman Cup, which will also take place in China in April. As a prestigious global mixed team event, the Sudirman Cup will test Indonesia’s squad depth and consistency at the highest level.

With this triumph, Indonesia has proven they are a force to be reckoned with in team competitions. The challenge now is to carry this momentum forward and aim for further glory on the world stage.
