All the 2026 BWF Super 1000 Champions
The 2026 badminton season has now seen all four Super 1000 tournaments come to an end. Super 1000 events are the biggest and most important tournaments on the BWF World Tour, just below the World Championships and the Olympics. Winning one of these titles is a huge achievement for any player, because the fields are packed with the best shuttlers from around the world.
This year, four Super 1000 events were held: the Malaysia Open in January, the All England Open in March, the Indonesia Open in June, and the China Open in July. Together, they crowned champions from many different countries, showing just how competitive world badminton has become.
Malaysia Open kicks off the year
The season began in Kuala Lumpur with the Malaysia Open. Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn won his first-ever Super 1000 title in the men’s singles event, beating China’s Shi Yuqi, who had to retire injured during the final. It was an emotional moment, since Kunlavut received the trophy from his childhood idol, badminton legend Lee Chong Wei. In the women’s singles, South Korea’s An Se-young continued her strong form to take the title. Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae won the men’s doubles, while China dominated the other two events, with Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning winning women’s doubles, and Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping taking the mixed doubles crown.
All England Open brings new champions
In March, the historic All England Open in Birmingham produced two first-time champions. Lin Chun-yi of Chinese Taipei beat India’s Lakshya Sen in straight games to win the men’s singles, becoming the first player from Chinese Taipei to win this title. China’s Wang Zhiyi defeated world number one An Se-young to win her first All England crown in the women’s singles. Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae successfully defended their men’s doubles title from Malaysia, while Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning did the same in women’s doubles. In mixed doubles, Ye Hong-wei and Nicole Gonzales Chan took the trophy.
Indonesia Open sees a historic surprise
June’s Indonesia Open in Jakarta brought one of the biggest surprises of the year. Canada’s Victor Lai won the men’s singles title, becoming the first Canadian player ever to win a Super 1000 event. He beat several top-ranked players along the way, including home favourite Jonatan Christie in the final. An Se-young won the women’s singles again, showing great consistency throughout the season. Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin won the men’s doubles, Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto took the women’s doubles, and Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen with Alexandra Bøje won the mixed doubles.
China Open closes the season
The final Super 1000 event of the year, the China Open in Changzhou, ended with a special story. Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien-chen, at 36 years old, became the oldest player ever to win a Super 1000 title. He beat France’s Toma Junior Popov in three tough games in the final. Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi won the women’s singles by beating home favourite Chen Yufei. Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri successfully defended their men’s doubles title, while China won both remaining events, with Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning taking women’s doubles, and Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui winning mixed doubles.
A season of many winners
Looking back at all four Super 1000 events, a few names stand out. The women’s doubles pair of Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning was the most successful players, winning three titles across the season. An Se-young and the men’s doubles pair of Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae also had a strong year, each winning two titles. Meanwhile, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Lin Chun-yi, Wang Zhiyi, Victor Lai, and Chou Tien-chen all enjoyed special career moments, including several first-time or historic Super 1000 wins. The 2026 season proved that badminton’s top level is spread across many countries, with China, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Denmark, and even Canada all celebrating Super 1000 glory.
