The Malaysia Open is a big badminton tournament held every year since 1937. It’s been played in different cities in Malaysia like Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Penang, Selangor, and Kuantan.
The tournament didn’t happen a few times:
- From 1942 to 1946 because of World War II.
- From 1969 to 1982 for unknown reasons.
- From 2020 to 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
From 2007 to 2017, it was a special tournament called the Malaysia Super Series.
Since 2018, the Malaysia Open has been a very important tournament, a “Super 750” event, in the badminton world. Then, starting in 2023, it became an even bigger event, a “Super 1000” tournament.
The 2026 edition of Malaysia Open will be held at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur from January 6 to January 11, 2026.
