The BDMNTN-XL 2025 Jakarta continued with high-octane action on Friday, October 3, as four powerhouse teams returned to the court for another thrilling day of group stage battles. Fans were treated to two entertaining sessions featuring the Hurricanes vs Lightning in the afternoon and Blitzers vs Rockets in the evening.

With the stakes rising and the final looming, every rally carried weight. By the end of the day, the Blitzers emerged as the first team to secure a ticket to Sunday’s grand finale, thanks to their second straight win.

Session I: Hurricanes Bounce Back with Convincing Win Over Lightning

The afternoon tie saw the Hurricanes respond strongly after their Day 1 loss, taking down the Lightning in a commanding performance.

The opening 3×3 clash featured the Hurricanes’ trio of Mathias Christiansen, Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti against Lightning’s Fajar Alfian, Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, and Shevon Jamie Lai. The contest was tight across four games, but the Hurricanes’ chemistry shone through as they sealed a 3-1 win.

In the Women’s Singles, Vietnam’s Nguyễn Thùy Linh brought Lightning back into contention. She overcame Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour in a 3-1 scoreline (8-15, 15-8, 11-14, 10-13), displaying her resilience in long rallies.

The momentum carried into the Men’s Singles, where Viktor Axelsen once again showed his class. Facing Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, the Dane produced a clinical 3-1 win (6-13, 9-10, 9-11, 15-4), giving Lightning hope of a comeback.

But the Hurricanes responded emphatically in the closing 3×3 showdown. Goh Sze Fei, Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, and Treesa Jolly combined superbly to dominate Fajar Alfian, Shevon Jamie Lai, and Tse Ying Suet with a 4-0 sweep. That result clinched the tie for the Hurricanes with a 6-2 overall score, sending a clear message that they remain serious contenders.

Final Score: Hurricanes 6 – 2 Lightning

Session II: Blitzers Secure Final Spot With Back-to-Back Wins

The evening session was arguably the most anticipated of the day, as the Blitzers faced off against the Rockets. Both teams had shown glimpses of brilliance on Day 1, but it was the Blitzers who proved unstoppable once again.

The opening 3×3 battle was a close fight between Lai Pei Jing, Ong Yew Sin, and Sabar Karyaman Gutama for the Blitzers against Melati Daeva Oktaviani, Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and Teo Ee Yi for the Rockets. After a five-game rollercoaster, the Blitzers edged out a 3-2 victory to seize early control.

In the Women’s Singles, Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt delivered a clutch performance for the Rockets. Taking on Canada’s Michelle Li, she rallied after dropping the first game to win 3-1 (12-9, 11-13, 5-16, 7-11), leveling the tie at 1-1.

But the Blitzers quickly regained their edge in the Men’s Singles, where Japan’s Kodai Naraoka toppled Indonesia’s beloved Jonatan Christie in another thrilling four-game contest (11-12, 8-10, 9-8, 5-8). Naraoka’s composure in crunch moments proved decisive, putting the Rockets under pressure.

The final 3×3 clash sealed the deal for the Blitzers. Apriyani Rahayu, Chirag Shetty, and Misaki Matsutomo outplayed the Rockets’ Alexandra Bøje, Melati Daeva Oktaviani, and Teo Ee Yi with a confident 3-1 win, giving the Blitzers their second straight triumph of the tournament.

With this result, the Blitzers not only maintained their perfect record but also became the first team to officially qualify for the BDMNTN-XL Final on Sunday, October 5. Their depth across singles and 3×3 formats has made them the standout squad of the event so far.

Final Score: Blitzers 6 – 2 Rockets

Looking Ahead: The Road to the Final

After two days of action, the Blitzers stand tall with a flawless 2-0 record and their place in the final secured. The Hurricanes, Rockets, and Lightning remain locked in a battle to earn the other final spot, setting the stage for a dramatic Day 3.

The innovative BDMNTN-XL format, blending singles and 3×3 matches with time-based scoring, has already delivered suspense, upsets, and unforgettable rallies. With the Jakarta crowd in full voice, fans can expect even greater drama as the tournament heads toward its climax.
