Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik To Skip Hong Kong Open

Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, will not be participating in the 2024 Hong Kong Open. The decision comes after Soh Wooi Yik sustained a fractured right toe during the semi-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

National men’s doubles coach, Tan Bin Shen, confirmed the news, stating that Wooi Yik is still in the recovery phase and unable to undergo intensive training. “He has shown positive recovery signs, but he is not yet ready for full court training,” said Bin Shen. The injury has also caused the pair to miss the Japan and Korean Opens earlier this season.

The Hong Kong Open is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 15. The duo is hopeful to make a return at the China Open, which will be held from September 17 to 22, depending on Wooi Yik’s recovery progress.

Despite the setback, the pair remains optimistic about their future competitions. “I want him to recover 100 per cent, even if he is forced, he can’t, he can’t go to a tournament in such a condition, the opponents are strong,” added Bin Shen.
