Biography
Maya Taguchi is a Japanese badminton player known for her strong performances in doubles events. She was born in Miyazaki Prefecture and began her journey in badminton at a young age. She initially attended Shitennoji Junior and Senior High School in Osaka, where she quickly rose to become one of the top-ranked players in the U-15 category in Japan.
Inspired by the successful badminton team of Yanai Commercial and Technical High School, she transferred to Yanai Junior High School and later joined Yanai Commercial and Technical High School, where she faced challenges before being accepted into the school’s elite badminton team. Despite initial rejections, her determination led her to secure a place on the team.
During her high school years, she captained the badminton team and contributed to their three consecutive national high school tournament victories from 2021 to 2023. In October 2023, she won the BWF World Junior Championship in Spokane, USA, alongside her doubles partner Aya Tamaki, becoming the second-ever Japanese women’s doubles pair to achieve this feat.
In early 2024, she joined ACT SAIKYO as a professional player and competed in the S/J League, where she played in all five matches and achieved an undefeated record, earning the Rookie of the Year award.
After graduating from high school, she joined Saikyo Bank on April 1, 2024, and officially became a member of the ACT SAIKYO team. Later that year, in September, she formed a new mixed doubles partnership with Yuta Watanabe, an Olympic bronze medalist, competing in the All Japan Members Badminton Championships.
