This innovative event introduces a never-before-seen format featuring four teams: Blitzers, Hurricanes, Lightning, and Rockets. Each team comprises seven players – four men and three women – who will compete in a fast-paced, action-packed format. Matches consist of four 10-minute quarters, with a sudden-death tiebreaker if the score is tied 2-2.
BDMNTN-XL boasts a star-studded lineup, including Indonesian favorites such as Jonathan Christie, Fajar Alfian, Hendra Setiawan, and Greysia Polii. International badminton sensations like world number one Viktor Axelsen and Thai world champion Ratchanok Intanon will also grace the court.
Adding to the excitement, BDMNTN-XL introduces a unique draft system, allowing teams to select players from different countries, creating exciting new partnerships. “I’m incredibly excited to play in this event,” shared Fajar Alfian. “It’s a new experience for me. After 10 years as Rian’s (Ardianto) partner, I’m thrilled about the prospect of playing with an international player.”
The tournament also features a 3v3 format, where captains can make unlimited substitutions between sets, adding a layer of strategy and excitement. Hendra Setiawan commented, “This is a completely different game. Unlike the Sudirman Cup’s traditional format, this includes 3v3 matches. It’s a historic first, and I hope it continues because 3v3 is incredibly exciting.”
With a total prize pool of $1 million USD, BDMNTN-XL offers a significant reward for the winners. The champion team will take home $420,000 USD.
