The Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced on Thursday, April 27, 2023, several changes to the tournament calendar for March 2024, as well as to the list of eligible tournaments for the Paris 2024 qualifying period.
The 2024 French Open will now be played in Week 10 from 5-10 March 2024 at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena in Paris and will act as a vital trial of the venue and facilities as part of the wider Paris 2024 testing programme.
Delays to the completion of construction meant the Porte de la Chapelle Arena would not be ready in time for testing at this year’s French Open, which is traditionally held in October.
BWF, in consultation with French Badminton Federation (FFBad) and Paris 2024 organising committee, agreed to move the French Open 2024 to its new slot in March 2024, so as to ensure vital familiarisation time for players and organisers at the Paris 2024 competition venue.
FFBad has also decided to move the 2023 French Open away from Paris and to the northwest city of Rennes due to a clash with the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Details on the new venue for the 2023 French Open will be released shortly.
