Chiharu Shida Wins All Japan Business Group Badminton Championship

The 75th All Japan Business Group Badminton Championship concluded yesterday, June 29, at the Ehime Prefectural Budokan and other venues in Matsuyama City, crowning new champions in both the men’s and women’s divisions after five days of intense competition.

The tournament, contested in a format of two doubles and three singles matches, showcased the best of Japan’s corporate badminton talent.

In the Men’s Division, Hitachi Information & Telecommunication Engineering made history by securing their first-ever championship title. Their hard-fought victory marked a significant milestone for the team.

NTT East claimed the runner-up position, while Tonami Transportation and BIPROGY shared third place.

Hitachi’s Yuichi Shimogami and Takumi Nomura were recognized for their outstanding performance, jointly receiving the Men’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

The Women’s Division saw Saishunkan Pharmaceutical emerge as the champions, demonstrating strong teamwork and skill throughout the event. BIPROGY finished as the runner-up, with Gifu Bluvic and ACT SAIKYO taking third place.

Notably, Paris Olympics women’s doubles bronze medalist Chiharu Shida and world champion Akane Yamaguchi, both representing Saishunkan Pharmaceutical, were jointly awarded the Women’s MVP title, highlighting their crucial contributions to their team’s success.

The championship, which ran from June 25 to 29, captivated badminton fans across Japan. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches on June 28 were streamed live for free on the Japan Badminton Association’s official YouTube channel, allowing a wide audience to follow the action.

The highly anticipated finals on June 29 were exclusively broadcast live on J SPORTS On Demand, with free archives set to become available on the Japan Badminton Association’s YouTube channel from June 30.

The 75th All Japan Business Group Badminton Championship once again underscored the depth of talent within Japan’s corporate badminton circuit, setting the stage for future national and international successes.
