Denmark reaffirmed its dominance in European badminton by clinching its 20th title at the 2025 European Mixed Team Badminton Championships. In the final match held at Baku Sports Palace on February 16, Denmark decisively defeated France 3-0, further cementing its status as the continent’s badminton powerhouse.

A Near-Perfect Campaign

Throughout the tournament, Denmark showcased its superiority, dropping only one point in the entire competition. The lone blemish came during the group stage against host nation Azerbaijan when Danish women’s singles player Line Kjærsfeldt suffered a hard-fought defeat against Keisha Fatimah Azzahra with scores of 21-17, 11-21, 21-23. Aside from that setback, Denmark was flawless, demonstrating its deep roster and tactical prowess.

Denmark’s Commanding Performance in the Final

Denmark entered the final against France as the clear favorite, having historically dominated the competition. In the previous two editions, France also fell short against Denmark in the championship match, and this year was no different.

The opening match featured the mixed doubles clash between Denmark’s Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund against France’s top-ranked duo, Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue. Despite the French pair being ranked No. 8 in the world—higher than the Danish No. 13-ranked pair—Toft and Magelund delivered a stunning performance. They secured victory in a tightly contested three-game battle, winning 21-11, 18-21, 21-15. This unexpected loss put France on the back foot early in the tie.

The second match saw Danish men’s singles star Anders Antonsen take on Alex Lanier. The match was a gripping affair, with Lanier pushing Antonsen in both games. However, the experience and composure of the Danish ace prevailed as he clinched a straight-game victory with scores of 21-19, 21-18, bringing Denmark to the brink of the championship.

With Denmark already leading 2-0, the women’s singles match saw Line Christophersen face Léonice Huet. France was already at a disadvantage in this fixture, as Huet, ranked 63rd in the world, was a significant underdog against Christophersen, who holds the No. 36 ranking. As expected, Christophersen dominated the match, winning comfortably in straight games 21-16, 21-14. With this triumph, Denmark secured a 3-0 sweep and officially claimed the championship.

Denmark’s Reign Continues

This latest victory marks Denmark’s 20th title in the tournament’s 28 editions, reinforcing its reputation as Europe’s premier badminton nation. The team’s depth, consistency, and ability to rise to the occasion have made them an unstoppable force in the competition. Meanwhile, France, despite reaching yet another final, will have to wait longer for its first championship victory.

As Denmark celebrates another golden chapter in its storied badminton history, its competitors will undoubtedly look for ways to challenge the Scandinavian giant in future editions of the European Mixed Team Badminton Championships.
