Last updated on January 23, 2023
The 2023 India Open (official and sponsored title: Yonex Sunrise India Open 2023) was an international badminton tournament that took place at the K. D. Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi, India, from 17 to 22 January 2023. The tournament offered a prize pool of US$850,000 and was categorized as a Super 750 event.
The 2023 India Open was the second tournament in the 2023 BWF World Tour calendar and the first Super 750 event held in the same year. The Badminton Association of India organized this tournament with sanctions from the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Lakshya Sen and Busanan Ongbamrungphan were the defending champions in men’s singles and women’s singles, respectively. Both could not defend their titles. Sen lost in the second round to Rasmus Gemke of Denmark, and Ongbamrungphan also lost in the second round to her compatriot Pornpawee Chochuwong.
Several Chinese players could not continue their fight during the tournament due to digestive problems due to unhygienic hotel food, as reported by several media. In the finals, two Chinese pairs in women’s and mixed doubles gave a walkover to their opponents from Japan, leaving three final matches out of five.
