Japan Open is an annual international badminton tournament held in Japan. The organizer of this tournament is Nippon Badminton Association with sanctions from the Badminton World Federation.
The Japan Open is the only BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament held in Japan. There are five individual competitions: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
The first tournament was held as “Yonex Cup Japan Open”, and in 1998 the name of the tournament was changed to “Yonex Japan Open”. Currently, Yonex is still one of the main sponsors of the Japan Open, along with Daihatsu.
The Japan Open used to be held in January or April, but since 2007 it has been held in September in Tokyo. The venues were mainly the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium and Yoyogi National Gymnasium, but from 2018 it will be held at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza in Chōfu.
In 2020 and 2021, this tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. In 2022, the tournament was moved to Osaka since Tokyo hosted the 2022 BWF World Championship before implementing the Japan Open that year.
