Hafiz Hashim: A Potential Game-Changer for Malaysian Men’s Singles?

Former All-England champion Mohd Hafiz Hashim is emerging as a strong contender for the head coach position of the men’s singles department at the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). His impressive coaching experience, coupled with a proven track record as a player, makes him a compelling candidate to revitalize the struggling Malaysian men’s singles scene.

With the recent departures of Hendrawan and Datuk Tey Seu Bock, BAM is actively seeking a qualified coach to lead their elite men’s singles players. Hashim’s tenure at the Suchitra Badminton Academy in Hyderabad, India, has provided him with invaluable experience coaching both senior and junior players, including the renowned P.V. Sindhu.

His ability to adapt to different coaching styles and work with players at various stages of their careers is a testament to his versatility. Hashim’s focus on player development and his commitment to achieving realistic performance goals align perfectly with BAM’s current strategy.

“I’m happy to stay in India right now. Of course, I will appreciate if the offer comes from the BA of Malaysia but I don’t think, they are looking for coaches like me,” said Hafiz.

“Malaysia will always be in my heart,” added Hafiz.

While Hashim expressed his contentment with his current role in India, he acknowledged the potential allure of coaching at home. His deep-rooted connection to Malaysian badminton and his desire to contribute to the nation’s success could make a return to BAM a compelling proposition.

As BAM’s coaching director Rexy Mainaky seeks to strengthen the men’s singles squad, Hashim’s name has undoubtedly surfaced as a potential game-changer. His expertise, coupled with his passion for the sport, could provide the spark needed to elevate Malaysian men’s singles to new heights.
