Injury Forces Tang Jie-Ee Wei to Withdraw from Upcoming Tournaments

The badminton world was dealt an unexpected blow today as the mixed doubles pair of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei announced their withdrawal from the upcoming Arctic and Denmark Opens. The unfortunate news comes after Ee Wei sustained a left-hand injury during a training session at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM).

Ee Wei suffered a fall during a gym workout, resulting in a gash on her left hand that required 16 stitches. National coaching director Rexy Mainaky confirmed the incident and stated that Ee Wei’s health is the priority. “Ee Wei needed several stitches and will not compete in the upcoming tournaments. The most important thing is that she’s alright, and we expect her to recover in a few weeks,” said Rexy.

The injury is a significant setback for the world No. 9 pair, who have been in exceptional form recently. They reached the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics in August, clinched the Korea Open Super 500 title, and made it to the quarter-finals of the Japan Open and the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Open.

Last year, the duo also showcased their prowess by reaching the semi-finals of the Arctic Open and the last 16 of the Denmark Open. Their absence from these tournaments will undoubtedly be felt, as they were strong contenders for the titles.

The badminton community wishes Ee Wei a speedy recovery and eagerly awaits their return to the court.
