by Dikdik Saparudin

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has unveiled its formidable lineup for the upcoming Badminton Asia Junior Championships (BAJC), slated to electrify Solo, Indonesia, from July 18 to 27. The squad features a blend of seasoned talents and rising stars, all eager to make their mark on the international stage.

Leading the charge for the girls’ team are the 2024 World Junior Championships doubles finalists, Dania Sofea Zaidi and Low Zi Yu. Their proven chemistry and recent success, including being crowned Slovak Open champions, position them as key contenders. Joining them are Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan and Nur Aina Maisarah Hatta, who demonstrated their prowess by finishing as runners-up at the same Slovak Open, adding further depth to the doubles contingent. The girls’ team is rounded out by the promising talents of Lee Mun, Oo Shan Zi, Eng Ler Qi, Lim Zhi Shin, Nicole Tan, and Nicole Chau, promising a strong all-around showing.

In the boys’ category, Razeeq Danial Roslie makes a highly anticipated return to lead the squad. He will be supported by a strong cohort of young male shuttlers, including Ayu Fu Sheng, Kong Wei Xiang, Lim Boon Le, Datu Anif Datu Asrah, Loh Zi Heng, Zulwaqqarizal Ahmad, Damien Ling, Shazmir Shahrul, and Tan Zhi Yang. This diverse lineup suggests a strategic approach by BAM to cover various disciplines and maximize their medal prospects.

Last year’s edition of the BAJC, held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, saw Malaysia secure a commendable one silver and three bronze medals. With the inclusion of top-tier junior talent and recent strong performances, expectations are high for the Malaysian contingent to surpass their previous achievements and vie for gold in Solo. Badminton enthusiasts across the region will be eagerly watching as these young athletes battle for Asian junior supremacy.
