An international badminton tournament is back in Malaysia in early July, namely the Malaysia Junior International Challenge 2025. This is a Junior International Challenge level tournament that will be held in Perlis, Malaysia, from July 1 to 6, 2025. Here are some things you need to know.

The prestigious competition will be held in Perlis, Malaysia, at the Dewan Wawasan 2020 in Kangar. This venue is set to welcome junior players from across Asia and potentially beyond, providing a platform for them to showcase their abilities on an international stage.

Tournament Structure and Schedule

The Malaysia Junior International Challenge 2025 will follow a full knockout format for all individual events, utilizing the standard 3×21 point scoring system. The tentative schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, July 1st – Thursday, July 3rd: Preliminary Rounds (starting 09:00 Hours daily)
  • Friday, July 4th: Quarter Finals (starting 15:00 Hours)
  • Saturday, July 5th: Semi Finals (starting 13:00 Hours)
  • Sunday, July 6th: Finals (starting 11:00 Hours)

Eligibility and Participation

The tournament is open to junior players who are under 19 years old throughout the calendar year of the tournament (born on or after January 1st, 2006). The minimum age for participants is 14 years old (born on or before December 31st, 2010).

Economic Impact

With a total prize money of US$8,000, the tournament not only provides a competitive environment but also offers a significant incentive for young athletes to excel. The event is also expected to boost local tourism and economy in Perlis, with participating teams and officials requiring accommodation and other services.
