Nozomi Okuhara withdraws from the 2022 BWF World Championships due to injury

Japanese badminton women’s singles player Nozomi Okuhara will have to miss next Monday’s World Championships due to a stress fracture in her right femur and a separation from the adductor muscle, according to Japanese media reports. The Japan Badminton Association announced the news on August 19.

Okuhara expressed her frustration that she could not participate in Japan’s first-ever World Badminton Championships, and she had hoped to do her best to get a good result.

The coach of the Japanese national team, Park Joo-bong, also regretted the absence of his disciples. He said that the team was doing very well in the Kumamoto training camp in July and the pre-season training camp on August 8.

Apart from Okuharaha, the 2019 world champion from India, PV Sindhu also decided to withdraw from the Championships due to injury.

The 2022 BWF World Championships will be held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium from 22 to August 28 in Tokyo, Japan. More than 360 players from 46 nations will participate in Japan’s first-ever BWF World Championships.

In the following week, some of the participants will play the BWF World Tour Super 750 2022 Japan Open in Osaka.
