Shi Yuqi
Shi Yuqi (Chinese: 石宇奇; born 28 February 1996) is a Chinese badminton player and the reigning World and All England Open champion in men’s singles.
He announced himself on the world stage by winning his first Super Series title at the 2016 French Open. Shi famously defeated the legendary Lin Dan en route to the final of the 2017 All England Open, and then outperformed him again to clinch the 2018 All England title. Most recently, he secured his second All England crown by winning the 2025 edition.
His major breakthrough came at the 2025 World Championships, where he captured the gold medal by defeating Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the final. This victory came seven years after he claimed a silver medal at the 2018 World Championships, where he fell to Japan’s Kento Momota.
A pillar of Chinese team success, Shi has led his nation to multiple team titles. He has contributed to four Sudirman Cup victories (2019, 2021, 2023, 2025), two Thomas Cup wins (2018, 2024), and two Asian Games men’s team gold medals (2018, 2022). Individually, he earned a silver medal in men’s singles at the 2022 Asian Games, losing to compatriot Li Shifeng in the final.
