Former world champion PV Sindhu of India will not head to Tokyo for the BWF World Championships 2022 starting August 21 after suffering an injury during her Commonwealth Games 2022 campaign in Birmingham.

Sindhu took to social media to confirm she had suffered a stress fracture on her left foot during the CWG and was pulling out of the world meet in the Japanese capital.

“While I am on the high of winning a Gold medal at the CWG for India, unfortunately, I have to pull out of the World Championships,” Sindhu said in a tweet on Saturday.

PV Sindhu was playing with taping on her left leg during the women’s singles final at the Commonwealth Games against Michelle Li of Canada.

Sindhu battled through the pain to win the gold medal match 21-15, 21-13, and complete the full set of Commonwealth Games medals by finishing on the top step of the podium for the first time.
