Why didn’t BAM choose Ng Tze Yong to play in the upcoming BAMTC?

by BWT Admin

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has released the squad for the upcoming Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships (BAMTC) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 14-19 February.

However, BAM surprisingly did not include Ng Tze Yong in Malaysia’s squad for the championships.

Tze Yong, who won the singles silver at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games last year, was expected to fill the second singles slot behind Lee Zii Jia, but world no. 66 Leong Jun Hao was picked instead.

BAM singles coaching director Wong Choong Hann said the decision was to ensure Tze Yong, currently world no. 27, had enough training under his belt ahead of the Paris Olympics qualifying window, which begins on May 1.
