Qingdao, China – In a dramatic semifinal clash at the 2025 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, host nation China secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Japan at the Conson Gymnasium on February 15. The match featured intense battles across all five disciplines, with China ultimately emerging victorious to advance to the final against Indonesia.
The tie began with the mixed doubles match, where Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa and Natsu Saito delivered a strong start for their team by defeating China’s Gao Jiaxuan and Wu Mengying in straight games, 21-15, 21-16. Their win gave Japan an early 1-0 lead in the series.
China, however, responded strongly in the singles categories. In the women’s singles, Xu Wenjing dominated her match against Tomoka Miyazaki, winning convincingly with scores of 21-16, 21-17. Xu’s victory leveled the tie at 1-1. The men’s singles saw an equally impressive performance from Hu Zhe’an, who overcame Yushi Tanaka in three games. After losing the first game 7-21, Hu made a stunning comeback to take the next two games 21-17, 21-11, giving China a 2-1 lead.
Japan fought back in the women’s doubles, as Arisa Igarashi and Ayako Sakuramoto delivered a crucial win against China’s Chen Qingchen and Wang Tingge. The Japanese pair won 21-16, 21-18, bringing the match to a deciding fifth rubber.
The final match, the men’s doubles, was an intense showdown between China’s Chen Xujun and Huang Di against Japan’s Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura. After losing the first game 20-22, Chen and Huang regrouped and delivered a thrilling comeback, winning the next two games 21-17, 21-15. This victory secured China’s place in the final with an overall 3-2 win.
With this result, China has now reached its third final in four editions of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships since its inception in 2017. Awaiting them in the final is Indonesia, who secured their first-ever appearance in the tournament’s final after defeating Thailand 3-1 in the other semifinal matchup.
The highly anticipated final between China and Indonesia will be a battle of two powerhouse badminton nations, promising another thrilling encounter for fans of the sport.
