by Dikdik Saparudin

Malaysian badminton star Ong Yew Sin and former Japanese standout Aya Ohori have tied the knot! The couple exchanged vows in an intimate civil ceremony at the National Registration Department (JPN) in Melaka on Thursday, marking a new chapter in their lives.

Their cross-cultural romance, which has charmed fans across Asia and beyond, was formalized in the presence of close family members. Assistant Registrar Nur Fatehah Razali officiated the ceremony.

Both Yew Sin, 30, and Ohori, 28, took to social media to share their happiness. Ohori posted a touching photo with the caption, “Officially off the market. May we grow old together and love each other more and more every day. Thanks, everyone, for the wishes and support.”

This wedding follows their engagement announcement in March, which Yew Sin commemorated with a post saying, “Our forever starts today.” He had previously opened up about their journey, acknowledging the challenges and growth: “Different nationalities, different cultures and different living styles. We’ve learned to adapt and accept each other’s lifestyles, and understand each other’s cultures throughout the years (we still quarrel always).”

Ong Yew Sin is a well-known men’s doubles shuttler, currently ranked 31st in the world with his partner Teo Ee Yi. He’s notably a bronze medalist from the 2021 World Championships.

Aya Ohori, a formidable women’s singles player, recently retired from professional badminton after a strong 2024 season that included wins at the Thailand Masters and Australian Open. She also earned a bronze medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and was key to Japan’s second-place finish at the 2020 Uber Cup.

Their love story, spanning different nationalities and disciplines within the sport, is a rare and lasting one in the demanding world of elite badminton. As they begin this new journey, the global badminton community and fans are sending their warmest congratulations to the newlyweds.
