Arctic Open 2026: Kunlavut, Shi Yuqi, Sindhu and Top Doubles Stars Set for Vantaa

The Clash of Clans Arctic Open 2026 powered by Yonex is shaping up to feature a strong international field when the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament takes place in Vantaa, Finland, from October 6–11, 2026.

According to the latest acceptance list, several of the biggest names in men’s and women’s singles are entered, while the doubles events also feature a number of highly ranked partnerships.

The tournament will be staged at Vantaan Energia Areena and offers US$500,000 in total prize money.

However, badminton fans should note that the published entry list is not yet the final tournament field. The acceptance report is dated August 25, 2026, meaning changes can still occur before the event through withdrawals or other entry adjustments.

Kunlavut, Christo Popov and Shi Yuqi Head Men’s Singles Field

Men’s singles is set to be one of the highlights of the Arctic Open, with several players near the top of the rankings appearing on the current list.

France’s Christo Popov leads the acceptance list with a listed ranking of No.2, followed by Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn at No.3.

Experienced Chinese Taipei star Chou Tien-chen is also entered, while Denmark’s Anders Antonsen and China’s Shi Yuqi add further quality to the field.

China could have another major contender in Li Shifeng, while Lin Chun-yi, Loh Kean Yew, Toma Junior Popov, Koki Watanabe and Weng Hongyang are among the other notable names currently accepted into the main draw.

The strength of the list means the Super 500 tournament could provide high-level matchups from the opening rounds.

India’s H.S. Prannoy, meanwhile, appears on the qualifying list in the August 25 report rather than among the main-draw entries.

Sindhu Joins Strong Women’s Singles Line-Up

The women’s singles competition also contains an impressive mix of established champions and rising contenders.

China’s Han Yue is the highest-ranked player on the current acceptance list at No.5, with former world champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand following at No.6.

Another Thai star, Pornpawee Chochuwong, is also entered, along with Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki.

One of the biggest names on the list is India’s Pusarla V. Sindhu, who is shown at No.10 in the report. Two-time world champion Nozomi Okuhara is another notable Japanese entrant.

Denmark’s Line Christophersen and Mia Blichfeldt, Canada’s Michelle Li, Chinese Taipei’s Lin Hsiang-ti and Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh are also included in the main-draw acceptance list.

With several players from Asia and Europe inside or around the world’s leading group, women’s singles could become one of the most competitive draws of the week.

Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang Lead Men’s Doubles Entries

There is plenty of star power in men’s doubles as well.

China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang sit at the top of the current acceptance list with a ranking of No.3.

Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin are another high-profile pair expected in Vantaa, while England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy and Japan’s Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi are also among the highest-ranked combinations entered.

China’s Chen Boyang and Liu Yi complete a strong group near the top of the list.

Several other established and newly formed combinations are included further down the entry list, adding an element of unpredictability to the men’s doubles event.

Japanese Pair Headlines Women’s Doubles

In women’s doubles, Japan’s Kie Nakanishi and Rin Iwanaga occupy the leading position on the acceptance list with a ranking of No.7.

Bulgarian sisters Stefani Stoeva and Gabriela Stoeva are also set to compete, while Chinese Taipei’s Lin Jhih-yun and Hsu Yin-hui and Japan’s Sayaka Hobara and Rui Hirokami are among the other leading entries.

The current list also includes several Chinese, Japanese, Chinese Taipei, American and European combinations.

World No.1 Pair Tops High-Quality Mixed Doubles Field

Mixed doubles could feature arguably the deepest group of leading pairs at the tournament.

China’s Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping, listed as the world No.1 pair in the report, headline the entries.

They are joined by Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran, ranked No.2 on the acceptance list, while Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje sit at No.3.

China’s Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin are another major pairing on the list, alongside compatriots Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui.

The presence of several of the highest-ranked mixed doubles combinations could make the discipline one of the most closely watched events in Vantaa.

Arctic Open 2026 Entry List Still Subject to Change

While the early acceptance list points towards an impressive field, it should not be treated as the final Arctic Open 2026 line-up.

The BWF document is an acceptance list dated August 25, several weeks before competition begins. The report itself separates players and pairs into main draw, qualifying and reserve categories, with some withdrawals already recorded in various disciplines.

Further withdrawals or changes could therefore reshape the field before the tournament begins.
