The Blitzers team emerged victorious at the 2024 BDMNTN-XL Tournament, defeating the Hurricanes team in the finals at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, today (November 3). The team, consisting of top players like Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand), Toh Ee Wei (Malaysia), Pornpawee Chochuwong (Thailand), Alexandra Boje (Denmark), Sabar Karyaman Gutama (Indonesia), Seo Seung-jae (South Korea), and Ong Yew Sin (Malaysia), claimed a 7-2 victory over their rivals.
The Hurricanes, featuring players such as Lee Cheuk Yiu (Hong Kong), Aya Ohori (Japan), Selena Piek (Netherlands), Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja (Indonesia), Aaron Chia (Malaysia), Mathias Christiansen (Denmark), and Teo Ee Yi (Malaysia), could not withstand the Blitzers’ strategic play.
Blitzers’ coach, Patapol Ngernsrisuk, highlighted the importance of open feedback and collaboration in forming their winning strategy. “All the players provided feedback and ideas, which were crucial in shaping our approach,” he shared with the media.
South Korean doubles player Seo Seung-jae also emphasized the strong team spirit that contributed to their success. “Although this was our first time playing as a team, the chemistry was fantastic. We’re thrilled to have worked together and clinched the title,” stated the 2023 world champion.
The Blitzers received a cash prize of USD 479,000 (approximately MYR 2,090,000), while the runner-up Hurricanes took home USD 214,000 (about MYR 930,000). Other competing teams, including the Rockets and Lightning, also secured prize money.
The Rockets, featuring players like Hendra Setiawan (Indonesia), Lee Yong-dae (South Korea), Yeo Jia Min (Singapore), Chen Tang Jie (Malaysia), Tse Ying Suet (Hong Kong), and Misaki Matsutomo (Japan), shared the third-place prize of USD 109,500 (MYR 480,000), as did the Lightning team, which included Viktor Axelsen (Denmark), Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand), Ashwini Ponnappa (India), Greysia Polii (Indonesia), Yuta Watanabe (Japan), Tang Chun Man (Hong Kong), and Soh Wooi Yik (Malaysia).
