2026 French Open
October 20 – October 25 UTC+2
The French Open (French: Internationaux de France de Badminton) is one of Europe’s most historical badminton tournaments, held annually in France since 1909 under the stewardship of the Fédération Française de Badminton (FFBad).
Despite its early establishment, the tournament experienced a series of multi-year disruptions throughout the 20th century, with play halted between 1915 and 1934, as well as in 1965, 1970, 1972, 1994, and 2006.
Modern Evolution & Status Upgrade
For much of its early history, the tournament was not considered a flagship event on the international circuit. However, its stature transformed drastically during the 2000s:
- BWF Super Series (2007–2017): Promoted into the elite BWF Super Series in 2007, the French Open established itself as one of the 12 premier international badminton tournaments.
- BWF World Tour Super 750 (2018–2026): Under the revised Badminton World Federation event structure introduced in 2018, the French Open was classified as one of five top-tier BWF World Tour Super 750 events.
- Olympic Connection & Venues: Host cities have periodically shifted to accommodate major infrastructure growth. Notably, the 2024 edition was moved to the Adidas Arena (Porte de La Chapelle Arena) in Paris to serve as the official test event for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
