Indonesia has secured a spot in the semifinals of the Sudirman Cup 2025 after a hard-fought 3-1 victory against Thailand in the quarterfinals. The Indonesian team will now face South Korea for a place in the final.

The quarterfinal tie began with a setback for Indonesia as the mixed doubles pair of Rinov Rivaldy and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja lost to Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran in straight sets, 10-21, 15-21.

However, Indonesia quickly bounced back. Putri Kusuma Wardani leveled the score by defeating Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-18, 21-14 in the women’s singles match. Jonatan Christie then put Indonesia in the lead, overcoming Kunlavut Vitidsarn in straight sets 21-9, 22-20 in the men’s singles.

The decisive point came from the women’s doubles pair of Lanny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, who clinched the semifinal berth for Indonesia by defeating Thailand’s Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat and Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-14, 21-18.

South Korea reached the semifinals after also defeating Denmark 3-1 in their quarterfinal match.

Indonesia, seeded second in the tournament, has set a target of reaching the final to maintain their hopes of winning their second Sudirman Cup title. Indonesia’s sole triumph in the prestigious mixed team championship came in the inaugural edition held in Jakarta in 1989.

The semifinal clash between Indonesia and South Korea is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 5 PM (UTC+8). Badminton enthusiasts are anticipating a thrilling encounter between these two badminton powerhouses.
