Badminton Association of Japan
The Badminton Association of Japan (BAJ) is the national governing body for badminton in Japan. Its journey began in 1946, shortly after the war, formalizing a sport that had taken root in the country through YMCAs in 1919. The association quickly established its international presence, joining the International Badminton Federation in 1952.
In a notable move on June 22, 2025, the association officially changed its English name from the Nippon Badminton Association to the Badminton Association of Japan. This rebranding was accompanied by a new logo and a revitalized vision for the future.

The BAJ is led by a series of distinguished presidents. The current president, Mitsuru Murai, took office in June 2023, continuing the work of his predecessors. Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado serves as the Honorary President, lending the organization significant prestige.

To further its global strategy, the BAJ has begun establishing formal partnerships. In June 2026, it signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) . This agreement aims to enhance the competitiveness of athletes from both nations, create business opportunities, and promote cultural exchange.
